Sash window repair
Smaller jobs to get a window working properly again, such as freeing a sticking sash, replacing a broken cord, stopping rattles or repairing a damaged section, without the cost of a full restoration.

Wood rot repair and timber splicing
Rotten timber is cut out and new wood is spliced in. We can use durable hardwoods such as iroko and salvaged slow grown pine for listed buildings.

Rotten cills are repaired with spliced-in hardwood or, where they are too far gone, replaced in durable iroko.

Sash cord replacement
Broken or worn cords are replaced with waxed cotton sash cord with a nylon core for strength. The weights are checked and adjusted if needed so each sash glides smoothly and stays where you put it.
-
Draught proofing
The staff and parting beads are replaced with brush-seal beads and a draught strip is fitted.

Existing locks and fittings are kept and reused where possible.
-

Casement window repair
Timber casement windows get the same repair-first approach: rot repairs, easing and adjusting, new glass and putty, and repainting.
How we work
- Get in touch by phone or email with a few photos of your windows.
- Visit and assessment. We look at the windows and talk through what they need.
- Written quote. A clear, fixed price for the work set out, valid for 28 days.
- Booking. Larger jobs are secured with a deposit (usually 20%) paid before the work, so we can order materials. Small jobs don’t need a deposit.
- The work. Done on site, or sashes are taken to the workshop with the openings safely secured while they’re away.
- Finish. Windows checked for smooth running, site left clean and tidy. The balance is due on completion.
Frequently asked questions
Is it worth restoring my windows rather than replacing them?
Usually, yes. Original timber is often better quality than modern softwood, and a restored window can last for decades. It also keeps the character of the house and is often required for listed buildings.
Is the price fixed?
Yes. The quote is a fixed price for the work set out, so it won’t go up if the job takes longer. The only exception is hidden rot that can’t be seen until the window is opened up. If we find any, we’ll stop, show you, and price the extra work before doing anything.
Do you work on listed buildings?
Yes, it’s our specialism. We repair and replace with like-for-like materials. Any alterations that need consent will have to be applied for, and we can help with information for your application.
How long will my windows be out?
Most work is done on site. If sashes go to the workshop, we’ll agree how long beforehand, and the openings will be securely boarded.
Is lead paint a problem?
Older windows often have lead paint, so we assume they do and work in a way that keeps dust to a minimum. We also use extraction equipment rated for lead-based paint when removing old paint.
How much does it cost?
Every job is different, so we offer a free visit and a fixed-price quote.
